When to leave Kouvola

Add the two hours for bag drop and security and a flight at 08:00 means a pickup outside your hotel at about 04:00, a midday flight at about 08:00. Both are quiet hours on Highway 6. The section that deserves a margin is the E18 approach to the capital region on a weekday morning, and we plan for it rather than hope through it.

Cottages and trailheads add three quarters of an hour

Kouvola is not one town but a string of centres along the Kymijoki, so the departure address changes the timing more than anything else does. A pickup at the Original Sokos Hotel Vaakuna beside the railway station is the straightforward two-hour case. From a cottage or a trailhead in the north — the Lapinsalmi or Tervajärvi entrances to Repovesi, or the lakes around Verla — allow roughly 45 minutes more on top, on smaller roads that are dark and snow-covered on a winter morning.
