Hernesaari is about 25 km from Helsinki Airport and the drive takes roughly half an hour. The complication is at this end, not on the road: there is no terminal building at the quay, so passengers walk from the gangway to a waiting area, and the driver meets you there with a name sign once we have confirmed which berth your ship was given. Heavy traffic is directed along Munkkisaarenlaituri on the western edge of the peninsula, and the whole area is a live construction and redevelopment site, so gates, walkways and signage change from season to season. That is why we confirm the meeting point on the day rather than describing it weeks in advance.

Timing a flight on the day you leave the ship

A ship carrying two to four thousand passengers does not empty in ten minutes. You are given a disembarkation time and the quay fills in waves, so tell us that time rather than the hour the ship berths — the pickup is planned from it, plus the two hours the airport asks for before an international departure. On a busy summer morning several large ships can be alongside at Hernesaari and the neighbouring harbours at once, which is exactly when quayside transport across the whole port is stretched thinnest and a car arranged in advance is worth most.
