How Much a Taxi from Helsinki Airport Really Costs

There is no single price for a ride from Helsinki Airport into the city — the train, the apps, a taxi and a pre-booked car are four different products. Here is what sits behind each of them, what our fixed fares include and how to know your number before you fly.

Helsinki Airport sits about 20 km north of the centre, in Vantaa, and the drive is motorway almost the whole way — roughly 30 minutes outside rush hour. That part is the same for everybody. The price is not.

The short answer

OptionTime to the centreWhat you actually payKnown for
Ring Rail train (I / P)~30 min€4.80 per person (HSL ABC ticket)Cheapest, by a distance
Taxi from the rank25–40 min, plus the queueTold to you before the ride startsNo planning needed
Ride-hailing app25–40 min plus the pickup walkWhatever demand says that minuteA familiar app, an unfamiliar total
Pre-booked private car (Helsinki airport taxi)25–40 minFrom €107 per carKnowing the figure a week in advance

Four different products. The rest of this page explains what sits behind each of them.

What the 2026 taxi reform changes

In July 2018 Finland deregulated its taxi market almost completely: no fixed maximum fares, no vehicle quotas, no required look for a taxi. Every company sets its own prices. Statistics Finland later measured fares rising by roughly 30% nationwide, and what visitors noticed was the spread from one company to the next.

Parliament has since started tightening the rules. Since 1 September 2026 stricter background checks and training requirements apply to taxi drivers, and passengers must be told the fare before the trip begins. From 1 January 2027 taxis can switch to their own distinctive registration plates, which become mandatory on 1 July 2027, and from 1 February 2027 every taxi must carry a taximeter — so a legitimate taxi becomes easy to recognise at a glance. All of that is genuinely good news.

But read the important sentence twice: the reform does not bring back regulated fares. Companies still set their own prices; the reform is about safety and transparency, not tariffs.

The four things you are entitled to in a Finnish taxi

These rights are real, they are worth using, and using them is completely normal behaviour in Finland — nobody in a Finnish taxi is offended by a passenger who asks the price first.

  • Taxis waiting at a rank must display example-trip pricing where you can read it.
  • The total price, or the basis for it, must be told to you before the ride starts.
  • Any fare above €100 must be expressly agreed in advance — otherwise you do not owe it.
  • You are entitled to a receipt showing the company and the driver.

So: ask for the total to your address before the ride starts, and keep the receipt. The official guidance for passengers is on Traficom's site.

Why the price does not move once you book

We do not sell minutes, so we have nothing to charge extra for when the minutes get slow. You book a car for a route, the fare is agreed in writing before you fly, and it does not move for traffic, for the driver's choice of road or for a flight that lands four hours late.

ClassPassengersTo / from the airport
Business Sedan (Mercedes-Benz E-Class or similar)up to 3from €99 / from €107
Business Van (Mercedes-Benz Vito)up to 8from €103 / from €127
First Class Van (Mercedes-Benz V-Class)up to 6from €140
First Class (Mercedes-Benz S-Class)up to 3from €194

That is the price of the whole car, all taxes included, not a price per seat: four people pay what one person pays. The full table with luggage capacity per class is on the prices page.

In the First Class Van and the First Class the price is the same in either direction; in the Business Sedan and the Business Van the ride to the airport costs less. A pickup at the airport includes flight tracking, a driver standing inside the arrivals hall with your name and 60 minutes of waiting from the moment the wheels touch down; a departure from your hotel to the airport has its own page. These are starting prices: the exact fare for your date and time is shown in the booking form, and if a class is not available on your date, the form offers the next one.

What the fare includes

  • Meet and greet inside Terminal 2 arrivals, with your name on a sign — not at a kerb, not in a car park. Exactly where the driver stands takes a minute to read before you land.
  • Flight tracking. A delay moves the pickup automatically and costs nothing.
  • 60 minutes of free waiting counted from the actual landing, which covers passport control, a slow belt and a lost-luggage report.
  • Luggage help — no per-bag charge. Child seats are provided on request, subject to availability and a possible extra charge, so contact us before booking to confirm both.
  • Card payment online with a receipt by email, which is the version your finance department wants.

The whole sequence, from booking to the drive, is written out in how it works and, for the terminal itself, in our arrival instructions.

So which one fits your trip

  • One person, a cabin bag, daytime, no hurry → the train. €4.80 and about 30 minutes; nothing on this page beats it, and we are not going to pretend otherwise.
  • A regular taxi, but with the total known before you fly → our economy class: a licensed taxi booked in advance, from €72 between the airport and central Helsinki in either direction, up to 4 passengers with 2 large suitcases.
  • You live inside a ride-hailing app → it works here too, on a quiet afternoon it can be the cheapest car on the page, and on a wet Friday evening it will not be.
  • Four or more people, big luggage, a night landing, a child, or an expense claim that needs a number → a pre-booked car: one vehicle for everyone and the bags, a driver waiting inside arrivals with your name, child seats arranged ahead and a receipt with the agreed figure.

Going somewhere other than the centre — a ferry terminal, a hotel in Espoo, another city? Every destination we drive is listed with its distance, drive time and fixed price, and the same logic applies to all of them.

Still weighing the whole menu? Our full airport-to-centre comparison covers trains and buses in more detail, we wrote up Uber and Bolt at HEL as plainly as we could, and there is a train-versus-car decision rule for the trip you are actually taking. If the answer turns out to be a fixed price, booking takes about a minute.

Frequently asked questions

How much is a taxi from Helsinki Airport to the city centre?
A pre-booked private car starts from €107 for the whole vehicle from the airport (from €99 in the other direction) in the Business Sedan (Mercedes-Benz E-Class or similar), agreed before you fly, with the driver waiting inside arrivals with your name, flight tracking and 60 minutes of waiting included. If a regular licensed taxi is enough, our economy class books one ahead from €72 between the airport and central Helsinki.
Is the price of a pre-booked transfer fixed?
Yes, by definition: the price for your date and time is agreed when you book — from €99 to the airport and from €107 for airport pickups for the Business Sedan (Mercedes-Benz E-Class or similar) for up to three passengers, from €103 and from €127 respectively for the Business Van (Mercedes-Benz Vito) seating up to eight.
Does a late landing or slow traffic change the price?
Not for a pre-booked transfer. You see the fare for your exact date and time before you book, and it is fixed from that moment — a delayed flight, a night arrival or a traffic jam adds nothing later.
Is the train cheaper than a taxi from Helsinki Airport?
Much cheaper for one or two people — €4.80 per person on an HSL ABC ticket for the I or P Ring Rail train, about 30 minutes to Central Station. A car is priced per vehicle rather than per seat, and in the small hours, when the trains stop running, it is the option that is still there.
What protects me as a taxi passenger in Finland?
Finnish law: the total price or its basis must be told to you before the ride begins, any fare over €100 must be expressly agreed in advance, and you are entitled to a receipt naming the company and driver.
Is the price per person or per car?
Per car, for a pre-booked transfer. One passenger and four passengers pay the same fixed fare, luggage included, so the price per head falls as the group grows.

All fixed fares by class are on the prices page, and the arrivals-hall part is described under Helsinki Airport pickup.
